For dog owners in Singapore

Your furkid is limping, stiff or lazy on walks. It may be osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis often goes unnoticed because dogs hide pain, and lameness is easy to put down to age or laziness. Pain medication such as NSAIDs only eases the symptoms but never addresses the root cause of the disease.

ADstem™ takes a different approach. It is a regenerative stem cell treatment, given as one injection by a trained vet at a participating clinic in Singapore, with long-term anti-inflammatory and regeneration properties on the joint.

How is your dog doing?

Osteoarthritis is a long-term joint disease, and it is easier to manage when it is found early.

It rarely starts with a limp. Dogs hide pain, so the first signs are easy to miss. Your dog sleeps more, hesitates at the stairs, stops jumping onto the sofa or into the car, or walks shorter distances. Slowing down is not just age, and a dog who seems lazy may be sore. These are symptoms worth taking seriously.

Think about the past week and answer the questions below. Your answers are only sent if you submit the form at the end. They give you something concrete to take to a vet, and they do not diagnose anything.

Skip the questions and go to the contact form
1. Which of these have you seen?
2. How has your dog been feeling?

Osteoarthritis can be painful for a dog, and pain affects mood as well as movement. In a published study, dogs whose pain was controlled improved both emotionally and physically. Think about the past week and, for each line, choose the number from 1 to 5 that best describes your dog.

3. A few more questions

Sharing additional history can help your veterinary team help your dog.

Osteoarthritis can affect dogs of any age, breed or size, and the pain can get worse over time if it is not treated. This checklist helps you notice possible signs. A vet reviews your answers with you. It is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a discussion with your vet.

4. Get a veterinarian's opinion

We pass your answers to a participating clinic without commitment. Fields marked * are required.

An ADstem vial, sterile and cryopreserved
Why owners ask about ADstem™

One injection. No surgery. Made for dogs who have slowed down.

ADstem is a stem cell injection aimed at the pain and stiffness of osteoarthritis. Ask your vet whether it suits your dog.

Allogeneic stem cells The cells come from screened donor dogs selected under thorough inclusion criteria, so your dog needs no surgery to collect material.
One injection, one visit A single injection into the sore joint, given by a trained vet.
Measured, not guessed A thorough examination and diagnostics, before treatment and again 8 weeks later.
Made to a pharmaceutical standard EU GMP clean rooms. Every batch is tested for sterility and for more than 25 canine pathogens.
Clinical evidence StemcellX ran double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials in adult dogs before bringing ADstem to clinics.

Results vary between dogs and are not guaranteed. StemcellX says the cells do not replace tissue. They change the environment in the joint by calming the immune response and releasing factors that ease pain and swelling. StemcellX reports more than 250 dogs treated and its EMA application in progress. Approval is subject to review and not guaranteed.

How treatment works

From your first appointment to the 8-week follow-up review, we are with you along the way.

  1. First visit

    Appointment with a trained professional

Book a consultation at a participating clinic. The vet examines your dog and decides whether ADstem is appropriate.

  2. Before treatment

    Record the baseline

A thorough examination and diagnostics are run to evaluate your furkid's situation.

  3. Treatment day

    The injection

Your vet gives the injection into the affected joint(s) under light sedation. Your vet professional explains the aftercare.

  4. 8 weeks later

    Follow-up appointment

The examination is repeated to measure the improvement.

Questions owners ask

Before you decide.

Who manufactures ADstem?

StemcellX, based in Hungary, manufactures ADstem. Kynu distributes it in Asia, and it is given at participating clinics by vets trained by StemcellX.

Is ADstem safe?

A long-term follow-up of treated dogs has been published with safety results (publication 2 under Scientific publications). ADstem is an injection into a joint and, like any procedure, carries risks. The vet goes through them with you before treatment.

How much does it cost?

Price is discussed with the clinic directly.

Is my dog suitable?

The vet's examination answers that, and ADstem is not suitable for every dog. These are the situations it is used for:

  • Hip and elbow dysplasia. Joint issues your dog was born with. ADstem addresses the underlying inflammation and cartilage deterioration that worsens over time.
  • Osteoarthritis. Joints that have grown stiff and sore as your dog has aged. ADstem doesn't just manage the pain, it helps the joint repair itself.
  • General wear and tear. Everyday wear that builds up over years, especially in active, working or sporting dogs. Early treatment leads to better outcomes.

Arthritis often follows hip or elbow dysplasia, cruciate ligament disease, kneecap problems or a past joint injury, and age and extra weight add to it. ADstem is for the arthritis, not the underlying condition: it does not correct how a joint is formed or repair a torn ligament, and it does not replace surgery your vet recommends.

How long does it last?

It varies between dogs. In a study that followed 58 treated dogs for up to 5 years, 83% of owners said their dog's lameness had improved or stayed improved. That was reported by owners, and nobody can promise it for an individual dog. Your vet reviews your dog 8 weeks after the injection.

Do you take cells from my dog?

No. The cells come from screened donor dogs, so your dog needs no surgery to collect them. The injection is given at the clinic by a trained vet.

Stem cell treatments differ in where the cells come from:

  • Autologous. The cells are taken from your own dog, processed and injected back. This needs a procedure to collect them, and StemcellX notes that a dog's own cells may not always give a long-term solution because of genetic factors that can contribute to weak cartilage.
  • Allogeneic. The cells come from donor dogs and are prepared to treat several recipients. This is what ADstem uses, with cells from orthopaedically healthy donors.
  • Xenogeneic. The cells come from another species. ADstem does not use these.
Is ADstem approved in Singapore?

ADstem is available to Singapore clinics. Singapore's Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS, under NParks) reviewed its safety and efficacy data and raised no objection to marketing it here. In Europe, StemcellX's marketing authorisation application is in progress, and approval is subject to review and not guaranteed.

How does ADstem compare with other options?

Osteoarthritis is usually managed with more than one approach, and many dogs use several together. Here is how the main ones differ. Ask your vet what suits your dog.

At a glance Pain medication

ADstem™
Stem cell injection
What it works on The pain and inflammation your dog feels. The strength and support around the joint. The joint itself. Given into the affected joint, it calms inflammation there and aims to reduce pain at its source, not only the signal.
How often Regularly, for as long as your vet advises. Ongoing, as part of daily care. One single injection, with a vet review 8 weeks after the injection.
Long-term benefits The effect lasts while your dog takes it. Like most long-term medicines, it can cause side effects in some dogs, such as stomach upset, so your vet usually checks in regularly. Benefits last as long as the routine does. In a study that followed 58 treated dogs for up to 5 years, 83% of owners said their dog's lameness had improved or stayed improved.1

These options can be combined. ADstem is not suitable for every dog, carries the risks of any joint injection, and results are not guaranteed. Only vets trained by StemcellX can give it: see the participating clinics below.
